Anafi Island - Greece

The island of Anafi is extremely picturesque and peaceful, and this is one of the reasons that the island is attracting more and more visitors each year from all over the world.

The landscape of Anafi is truly inspiring, and the architecture sets the tone for the charming scenery with white houses with rounded roofs, instead of the more common square and triangular ones that you will find on other islands in the Cyclades. Together with the picturesque windmills, the landscape of Anafi is one that will stay with you forever.

The capital town of Anafi is that of Chora ( Hora ), which was built amphitheatrically on the same spot where visitors will see the ruins of the old Venetian castle. The small yet quaint port of Anafi is called Agios Nikolaos, which is approximately 3km from the town of Chora.

The island has some very interesting archaeological sites dating from the Hellenistic period, such as the Temple of Apollo, which was discovered on Anafi. Also worth visiting are the old windmills, and the monasteries of Zoodohou Pigis and Panagioa Kalamiotissa, which is positioned on the top of a mountain and dates from 1710.

Anafi also has some very beautiful beaches, especially in the southern part of the island. Some of the most popular sandy and quiet beaches include Katsouni, Exo Roukounas, Katelimatsa and Monastiri.

There are also some other lovely beaches on Anafi which can be reached either by foot or by boat that departs from the harbour.

Visitors to Anafi will find a wonderful selection of accommodation including hotels, rooms, studios and apartments to let.

There are also some lovely traditional tavernas where you can enjoy a tasty selection of cuisine including one of the most popular local dishes, lobster with spaghetti. Another local dish worth sampling is the reabbit and onion stew, which is called "stifado". There are also several bars and cafes where you can enjoy a drink and soak up the charm and beauty of the island.

Anafi has boat connections with the port of Pireaus in Athens as well as connections to other nearby islands.
