The island of Skyros is one of the jewels in the Aegean Sea, and is a beautiful place to enjoy relaxing, unique and rewarding holidays in Greece. Located north east of Evia, and south of the Sporades, the island of Skyros is one that you will instantly fall in love with. As well as catering for arrivals by air, there is also a ferry boat service to and from the island of Skyros.

The ferry operates on a daily basis during the summer season.

The ferry boat named "Achilleas", which operates to and from Skyros, was constructed in Japan in 1987, and was completely renovated in 2004.

The "Achilleas" has increased capacity for both the number of passengers and also vehicles it can carry, and is able to cater for the higher demand for travel to and from Skyros.

The "Achilleas" ferry boat is a very modern and comfortable one. There is a snack bar where you can purchase a range of drinks and light snacks as well as a a cafe bar operating on the lower outer deck of the boat.

Departing from the port of Kimi ( Kymi ) on the east coast of Evia, the journey across to Skyros takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Kimi is a very easy port to reach. Those who are travelling by car can reach the port easily upon arriving in Evia. There are also scheduled buses ( KTEL ) that operates to Kimi from a variety of cities and towns over Greece, including the capital city of Athens.

From Athens there are 2 routes that you can take. One is via ferry boat from Oropos ( mainland Greece ) to Eretria ( Evia ) and then a 50 car journey. The other route is via the Halkida bridge, where the journey will take you just over an hour by car.

From 21/6/2008 - 8/9/2008, the "Achilleas" ferry boat will offer travel routes to the Sporades islands of Skopelos and Alonissos. With frequent travel routes operating throughout the summer season, the Skyros Shipping Company have been able to open up the route for the Sporades islands from Evia and Skyros, allowing a greater number of visitors to easily and quickly reach these two beautiful, green and immensely popular islands that form part of the Sporades.

The demand for these routes is expected to be greatly received, and the "Achilleas" ferry boat will be able to connect the island of Skyros to Skopelos and Alonissos.
