The port city of Patras ( Patra ), located in the north of the Peloponnese region of Greece is one of the main entry points into Greece from those who are travelling by ferry boat from Italy and other parts of Europe.
Patra is a very charming city, and one where you can enjoy some unique moments. There are several places of interest and parts of the city that are worth visiting. From here, you can then head out and explore the rest of the Peloponnese.
Heading south from Patra takes you into the heart of the Peloponnese, where you can find a huge selection of popular holiday destinations, as well as a variety of ancient archaeological sites, including ancient Olympia - the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
From Patras, you can head north over the Rio bridge and enter Central Greece, from where you can continue north west towards the Epirus region of Greece, or North East, where you can head towards the region of Thessaly.
Beyond Thessaly, and continuing north, will take you to the Northern Greece region of Macedonia, home to some of the most beautiful regions of the country, including the city of Thessaloniki, as well as the magical Chalkidiki peninsula.
Heading east from Patras, you will reach the famous town of Corinthos, and the Corinth Canal, which will take you onwards towards the capital city of Athens. From here, you can then head to the port of Pireaus, and find ferry boats to a variety of the Greek islands.
