Kythira Island - Ionian Islands Greece
The island of Kythira is one of the Ionian islands that is not situated where you would expect to find it. It is actually positioned just 10 nautical miles from the southern part of the Peloponnese region of Greece. It actually borders on the Ionian and Aegean seas.
Kythira is an island of exceptional beauty and one that has been well known from the ancient times of being the island of Aphrodite. It was also known as Porfirousa and Tsirigo in the ancient times.
The capital of Kythira is the town of Chora ( Hora ), which is located on the top of a hill overlooking the island.
In Chora visitors can take a walk and explore the town along the many narrow paths and arches. There are many Byzantine churches that one can visit, as well as the famous Venetian castle.
The views from here are amazing, offering a panoramic landscape of the bay of Kapsaliou, which is the entertainment centre of the island.
Visitors to Kythira should also try and pay a visit to the traditional fishing village of "Avlemonas". The village is very picturesque and colourful.
From here there is a road that will lead you to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
Antikythira Island
Situated between Kythira and the famous 
island of Crete is the small, yet
highly beautiful island of Antikythira. This island was highly influenced
by Crete in terms of appearance. The capital of Antikythira is the town
of "Potamos".
The island of Antikythira is an ideal destination for relaxing and peaceful
holidays.
The genuine warm hospitality of the local residents, and the natural beauty
and landscapes of the island make it one on which you cannot help but to
relax.
Antikythira is also famous for the many ancient shipwrecks that are known to be in the waters around the island. In one of these shipwrecks, the stunning statue of the "Adolescent of Antikythira" was found, and which can be seen today in the Archaeological Museum of Athens.
There are connections by both air and sea to Athens, as well as to the port of Lakonia in the Peloponnese region of Greece.
