Sifnos Island - Cyclades Greece

Sifnos is a charming island situated between the neighbouring islands of Serifos and Paros. It has been well known since the ancient years for the art and pottery that was made here. During the ancient years, there were many talented craftsmen working in pottery and ceramic art is said to have originated from Sifnos.

In antiquity, the island was famous for the mine of gold and silver, which in turn helped to develop Sifnos into a commercially powerful centre.

The port of the island is Kamares, which is situated just 5.5km from the capital of Sifnos, the picturesque town of Apollonia.

Sifnos is an island that is ideal for summer holidays, and it's unique and inspiring landscape, where the whitewashed houses create a stunning contrast against the blue of the ski and the Aegean sea.

There are several popular destinations and interesting places to see all around Sifnos. At the popular Folklore Museum, visitors can see the famous embroidery and local costumes of the women of Sifnos.

Other points of interest including the wonderful churches and monasteries that are on the island, such as the church of Agios Spyridon and Panagia Ammou that is dated from 1650.

The scenery and appearance of Sifnos is typical to that of other islands in the Cyclades. The architectural style of the buildings, and the white houses, old windmills and classical houses create a wonderful setting for your to enjoy your holidays.

The island is perfect for exploring and visitors can enjoy beautiful walks along routes that will show some of the lovely landscapes and highlights of Sifnos.

The cuisine of Sifnos is very famous, and the famous Nikolaos Tselentes was born on the island in the village of Exabela. His book of recipes made the Greek style of cuisine much more famous throughout the world.

Visitors to Sifnos will find a charming selection of accommodation, ranging from rooms, studios and apartments to let to a variety of hotels. There are plenty of traditional tavernas where you can sample some of the tasty local cuisine, as well as many bars and cafes where you can enjoy a relaxing drink.

Sifnos has some exceptional beaches, which are very popular during the summer months. Two of the most popular beaches on the island are those of Platys Yialos and Chrisopigi. Here you can enjoy swimming in the crystal blue waters.

There are boat connections with the surrounding islands of the Cyclades as well as the port of Pireaus in Athens.
