Mykonos Island - Cyclades Greece

The island of Mykonos is one of the most famous Greek island, and is by far the most cosmopolitan. With a history stretching back over 2000 years, and this is easily comprehendable by the many ancient findings, and Byzantine churches and monasteries.

Apart from the natural beauty, and the unique atmosphere, Mykonos is an island that appeals to all types of visitors, whether they are looking for relaxing and tranquil holidays, or ones filled with fun and activities.

What turned Mykonos into an international "jet-set stop" is something is best explained by the locals, and is worth mentioning.

After the second world war, Mykonos was one of the poorest islands, and the only thing that supported the local economy was fishing.

When visitors and travellers would arrive at the island, the locals offered them all genuine and very warm welcomes.

This truly sincere and honest welcome to visitors was something that was immediately picked up on, and was most appreciated. This then became a custom of the island, and even today, visitors to Mykonos are made to feel like very welcomed guests.

Today, Mykonos is a very cosmopolitan island, though at the same time, still maintains it's traditional Cycladic colours and character.

It blends perfectly with the modern way of life, and the traditional architecture and magnificent natural beauty make it one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece.

There are so many images that will stand out to visitors, such as the whitewashed houses against the backdrop of the blue sky, the windmills, and the beautiful beaches and resorts.

Mykonos can easily be described as a small paradise, a place where you can escape routine and formality, and enjoy holidays exactly how they should be.

Mykonos isn't just an island for the rich and famous. It is an island for everyone. It is most popular during the summer, but is also chosen by many for weekend and short breaks throughout the year.

During the summer season, the beaches of Mykonos are filled with people enjoying the crystal blue waters of the Aegean, and the lively and friendly atmosphere.
